A filmmakers (or any creative) doctrine...
The mantra -
The work should have beauty.
Seek out the beauty. Seek a beautiful idea. Nurture it.
The beauty is not just a wrapper or packaging - it is intrinsic.
The task is to reveal the beauty and then make it shine.
In other words -
Search for the diamond, cut the diamond and then make it shine.
Ask yourself -
Does the beauty reside in the message – in the character – in the narrative – in the idea – in the execution?
The resistance -
Don’t derail the passion. Resist the creative resistance. Shake off the yolk of resistance. Rebuff the intimidation.
